For most of the 20th century this area was just another lovely section of Arkansas with small towns connected by trails and dirt roads, but in 1963 Greers Ferry Lake became a reality. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed construction of a dam (spanning the Little Red River), which is 1,704 feet in length and 243 feet in height, forming a lake 50 miles long, covering 40,000 acres, and creating a shoreline of 343 miles. Our river tributaries produce some of the largest walleye in the world, supporting a major event — the Walleye Run. Elevation of the lake at top flood control pool is 487 feet above mean sea level. Most important is that the lake ranks as one of the most pollution-free in the nation, providing an excellent water playground for fishermen, water skiers, scuba divers, and anyone seeking fun in the sun. As the seventh tourist destination point in Arkansas, the lake is dotted with first-rate marinas and boat docks, over 1,200 public and private camp sites, and a good selection of motel and resort facilities.
Greers Ferry Lake and it’s tail water, the Little Red River has been a popular destination for anglers worldwide visiting Arkansas. In our case, “World-Class Fishing” is fact, not hype. We can back it up with three world-record game fish. Greers Ferry Lake holds world records for Walleye (22 lb 11oz) and Hybrid Striped Bass (27 lb 5 oz). The Little Red River tail water, which feeds into Greers Ferry Lake, holds the current world-record for German Brown Trout (40 lb 4 oz).
Trophy-sized fish are common in our waters. Savvy guides put you “on the fish” in the lake and the river and we have plenty campsites, cabins and resort accommodations, ready and waiting to make your vacation complete.
